EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST: Junior Analyst, Americas Team

Job Description: We're accepting expressions of interest for joining Riskline as a Junior Analyst vacancy on the Americas team (AMER), which covers regional and global developments in politics, security and travel. Ideal candidates will have a strong academic background or professional experience in politics, government, international relations, security studies or regional studies.Candidates must have excellent analytical, writing and editing skills and be able to work under short deadlines and with little direct supervision. Regional language skills are highly valued.

This role offers a remote work contract, with a set schedule, typically local business hours for five consecutive days with a two-day break; work on Saturday and Sunday may be required. The role involves daily monitoring and reporting on political and security developments worldwide as well as supporting regional analysis for country- and city-specific security threats.

Desired Skills & Experience: This role requires the ability to think critically and produce a variety of high-quality long and short written reports in British (UK) English under tight deadlines. The successful candidate will be able to analyse complex situations and evaluate the risks they may pose to our clients to provide them with clear and concise information and advice. The position requires the candidate to manage time effectively, work under pressure and accept peer review.

Knowledge & Experience

Required:

• Postgraduate degree in international relations, political science, security studies, regional studies, geography, journalism or related subjects
• High level of knowledge and understanding of political and/or security issues of the Americas or subregions within it
• Experience living, working and/or travelling extensively within the Americas

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

• Academic or professional writing experience in UK English
• Ability to write clearly, concisely and confidently to tight deadlines
• Ability to identify and interpret events and developments of potential interest or concern to clients
• Located within the Americas; eg. Ottawa, Vancouver (Canada), Washington, D.C., Denver, Los Angeles (United States), Mexico City, Guadalajara (Mexico), Panama City (Panama), Bogotá (Colombia), Lima (Peru), Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo (Brazil), Santiago (Chile), Buenos Aires (Argentina)
• Available to work during local business hours throughout the week

Preferred:

• Working knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese or other regional language(s)
• Familiarity with COVID-19 travel restrictions
• Experience using spreadsheets and/or databases
• Experience with open-source intelligence (OSINT) and social media research
• Experience working remotely as part of a team
• Awareness of issues related to misinformation and disinformation
